Advance your teaching career with a reputable qualification

DELTA is a globally-recognised, advanced qualification for experienced English language teachers – accredited by Cambridge English, part of the University of Cambridge. It takes serious dedication, passion and a commitment to continued professional development, which is why the qualification is so highly-regarded across the world and attractive to educational institutions in the field.

There are three modules you must pass to be DELTA-qualified. Module 1 concentrates on understanding language, methodology and resources for teaching.

Although the course is part-time, it is very intensive. You should ensure that you have the strength, space and mental capacity to take on the challenge. For Module 1, you do not need to have a current class, although it can help you make sense of some of the theory or allow you to put certain hypotheses to the test if you do.

COURSE CONTENT

Each week there is a different topic. Learning activities for each topic include:

  • Input tasks: reading and notetaking from the Study Guide, and recommended bibliography, and viewing videos
  • A Collaborative Topic Task that allows course participants to discuss and make sense of the content together, with feedback from course tutors
  • Exam practice assignment, marked with scoring, personalised feedback and advice
  • Weekly quizzes which focus on aspects of the exam or course content
  • A co-constructed glossary of key terminology and concepts that is developed and added to by course participants on a rota basis and moderated by the course tutors.

Practise makes perfect

Globally, approximately 40% fail Module 1. That is a high failure rate, and so, in addition to developing your knowledge base of ELT principles and practices, the Online DELTA at Bell provides significant exam guidance and preparation with intensive and personalised tutor support and feedback.

  • Tips and advice from tutors in the forums on how to maximise your chances of success throughout the course, detailed pdfs on the various exam questions, there are also instructional videos for each question.
  • Weekly exam practice assignments specific to the week’s study topic, with pre-task guidance and advice, exam practice question assignments to complete and submit, and post-task scoring and personalised written feedback and advice;
  • Mock exams: two mock exams, completed mid-way through and towards the end of the course, which are marked, scored, and with detailed personalised written feedback and advice. There’s also the option of a third mock exam for those course participants who feel they need further exam practice.
