Course overview

On this course, you will:

  • Gain a thorough, practical insight into the physicality of pronunciation including words, stress, unstress, and connected speech
  • Go beyond connected speech to develop your personal expression and speaking from the heart
  • Develop presence and confidence in spoken performance
  • Experience and practise new teaching techniques to enable learners to bring their speech to life, and pleasure to their learning

Who is this course for?

This programme is for teachers, trainers, materials writers, native and non native (minimum B2) speakers of English, and anyone who wishes to speak from the heart with impact and clarity.

Course outline

This course is practical throughout, with two parallel strands:

  • Exploring from the inside how you produce sounds, words and connected speech. This involves connecting with the muscles that make the difference, seeing how you can change your pronunciation as little or as much as you wish, and learning techniques to help learners do the same.
  • Develop your spoken performance skill through presentation and performance, maximising listener engagement through your voice tone, pause, energy distribution, timing, intonation, fluency, body language and . . . speaking from the heart. We will use poems as developmental performance pieces, and the course will culminate in a class poetry festival.

No previous knowledge needed!

During the programme you will enjoy a complete workout with the Sound Foundations chart, receive constant feedback to gain confidence and mastery, and experience a range of new teaching techniques transferable to your classes and teaching style.
